Terms of Use

Last updated 30 September 2026

These are the rules for using Ate List. Using the app means you accept them. They are short because the app is small and the rules are few.

The short version. Your lists are yours. Don't post things that abuse other people. If you do, it goes, and so may your account. We can't promise the app is perfect, and we're not responsible for what a restaurant turns out to be like.

Who can use it

You need to be 13 or older, and you need an Apple account to sign in. One account per person. Don't use someone else's.

What you post

You write notes, take photos, pick a handle and a display name, and can invent your own categories. That content is yours — we don't claim ownership of any of it.

You do give us permission to show it to the people you've chosen to share it with: your followers see your rankings, and if you create a share link, the eight restaurants on that list become visible to anyone holding the link. That permission exists only so the app can do the thing you asked it to do, and it ends when you delete the content or your account.

What you may not post

There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour. Specifically, don't post:

The app refuses obviously abusive words as you type them, but a filter is a doormat, not a door. The rules above apply whether or not the filter caught it.

What we do about it

Any content written by another user can be reported from the row it appears on, and reporting someone blocks them immediately. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours.

We may remove content, suspend an account, or terminate it permanently — without notice — where we believe these rules have been broken. We don't have to explain a removal, and repeat or serious breaches mean the account goes. Terminating an account deletes its content.

We also don't moderate opinions. A one-star bowl of noodles is not abuse, and disagreeing with someone's ranking is not a reason to report them.

Restaurant information

Restaurant names, locations and districts come from Apple Maps. We don't control that data and can't guarantee it is current or correct. Scores and notes are the personal opinions of the people who wrote them — not ours, and not statements of fact about any business.

Your account

You can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app, at Me → Settings → Delete account. It is immediate and permanent. Keep your Apple account secure; anyone who has it has yours.

What we don't promise

The app is provided as it is. We don't promise it will always be available, that it will be free of bugs, or that a restaurant someone rated 9.1 will be good when you get there. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for losses arising from using it — and nothing here limits rights you have that can't be limited.

Apple

Apple is not a party to these terms and has no responsibility for the app. Apple's standard licence terms for App Store apps also apply, and where they conflict with these, theirs win. Apple and its subsidiaries may enforce these terms as a third-party beneficiary.

Changes

If these terms change materially, the date at the top changes and we'll say so in the app. Continuing to use it after that means you accept the new version.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
